Citrus Valley Gastroenterology is a gastroenterology-focused healthcare website targeting patients in Covina and Glendora.When we began working on the project, the website struggled with multiple technical issues, duplicate on-page elements, and poor local keyword rankings. Our primary objective was to fix these technical errors, improve overall site performance, enhance local visibility, and build a foundation for sustainable organic growth.

Over 2.5 months, we focused on improving site health, fixing technical SEO issues, optimising content and setting a strong foundation for local keyword rankings. As a result we improved website performance from a Page Speed Score 81 to 94, implemented critical SEO elements like schema, sitemap, and robot.xt and enhanced the website's search presence, resulting in 2.89 clicks and 96.6k impressions in Goggle Search Console, with an average CTR of 3% and average ranking position of 27.8. In terms of user behaviour, the website received 4.6k new users with 3.4k coming from organic search alone, and an average engagement time of 2 minute 5 seconds per session.

Initial Challenges

The website experienced several issues affecting its online visibility:

  1. Duplicate MetadataMany pages had same titles and meta descriptions, limiting search relevance and click-through potential.
  2. Technical ErrorsBroken internal images, missing canonical tags, and incorrect home page URL structure were creating indexing issues in Google Search Console.
  3. Content WeaknessesPages like testimonials, location, and FAQs had minimal or duplicate content, while certain service pages lacked keyword-focused optimization.
  4. No Structured DataThere was no schema implementation for the organization, physicians, or local business details, which impacted rich snippet visibility.
  5. Local SEO GapsThe website lacked strong signals for local search, such as updated business listings, high-quality profiles, and location-focused content.
  6. Crawlability IssuesThe sitemap and robots.txt were outdated, and many URLs were either not indexed or incorrectly redirected.

These factors collectively impacted the website’s ability to rank for local gastroenterology-related keywords and limited its overall search visibility.

SEO Strategy & Implementation

Technical Fixes

To recognize and fix critical issues, we began with a detailed site audit. Key improvements included fixing broken internal image links, minifying JavaScript and CSS file to improve page load speed, and updating the sitemap within the robot.txt to improve crawl efficiency.

The home page URL was changed from "/public" to a clean root domain and a canonical tag was added to ensure proper indexing.

Google Search Console Errors like "Pages with Redirect", "Crawled currently not Indexed", and "Alternate Page with proper Canonical Tag " were reviewed and resolved.

On-Page Optimization

We replaced all duplicate titles and meta descriptions with unique, keyword-optimized content across key pages. The updated titles and descriptions are now concise, informative and better aligned with what users are actually searching for.

We also improved content on underperforming pages— such as testimonials, FAQs and location pages and added new optimised sections targeting high-volume local keywords.

To strengthen relevance and boost engagement we introduced additional FAQs that directly address common user questions.

Schema Implementation

To strengthen search engine understanding and improve rich result eligibility, we implemented multiple schema markups:

  • Organization and Local Business Schema: Added to the home page and location pages to boost local search relevance.
  • FAQ Schema: Implemented on the FAQ page to enable rich results and enhance CTR.
  • Review Schema: Added to testimonial pages to improve trust signals in search results.
  • Physician Schema: Implemented for each doctor profile page, ensuring detailed information about physicians was structured for search engines.

Local SEO & Off-Page Activities

We focused on local SEO by creating and updating authoritative business listings, profiles and niche directory submissions to strengthen the website's local presence.

Our Off-page efforts included high-quality link-building strategies such as guest posting, Web 2.O creation, profile creation, classified, Reddit/Quora, forum, infographics and PDF submissions and promoting location-specific content, all aimed at increasing domain authority and improving relevance in local search results.

Content Expansion

We created and published location-specific content to target search queries for Covina and Glendora.

Additionally a new optimised section was added to the website to focus on high-volume keywords, expanding the site's content and helping capture long-tail local searches more effectively.
